Meet Wistera Pek, Senior Executive, SOC Operations at Woodlands Health

How long have you been in your role?

I’ve been with the SOC Operations team in Woodlands Health (WH) for two years now.

Summarise your job scope in 1-2 sentences.

I manage a team of over 50 SOC Patient Service Assistants (PSAs) currently based in other public hospitals, serving as their WH Reporting Officer. I actively engage with our nesting Reporting Officers and collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement streamlined workflows, ensuring a seamless and positive patient experience.

What drove you to join healthcare?

The motivation to join healthcare stems from witnessing the aging process of my parents, who belong to the baby boomer generation. Observing their journey has inspired me to contribute to shaping healthcare in a manner that maximally benefits our older generation.

What is one thing that spurs you on at work?

Witnessing the trust and openness of my colleagues when they share their concerns with me is rewarding, as it signifies the establishment of a strong bond and a sense of trust in our professional relationship.

What is one thing about your job, that you feel is unknown or misunderstood?

One aspect of my job that might be less apparent is the significant amount of time and effort invested behind-the-scenes to establish a new service.

The extensive discussions and coordination involved demand time and collaboration from various stakeholders, which are vital factors contributing to the ultimate success and fruition of the initiative.

Can you share with us one or two memorable moments from your time in WH or healthcare?

A memorable moment for me was supporting Tampines CTF alongside my SOC Ops team. This experience not only fostered team cohesion but also provided us with a tangible project to collaboratively work on.

What do you love about your job?

I like the adrenaline rush and personally enjoy planning and creating things, which aligns perfectly with my current role.

What made you join WH?

I joined WH because I thrive in dynamic environments and relish the challenge of questioning and improving current practices. The hospital-in-building setting of WH provides the ideal environment for fostering discussions and innovation, allowing for the exploration of improvements and streamlined processes without the constraints of existing norms.

What convinced you to stay on with us?

Definitely the team of supportive colleagues around me, who have been very helpful since my first day here!

Everyone is always open to discussion on workflows and processes, with a common goal to bring about a seamless and pleasant end-to-end patient care experience in WH.
