SINGAPORE, 14 MAY 2025 – The National Healthcare Group (NHG) today officially opened its first Women’s Health & Specialist Centre (WHSC) and Children’s Clinic (CC) in Woodlands Health (WH), to provide specialised medical care for women and child-related health conditions, making WH the first public healthcare institution offering these services in Northern Singapore. The opening was graced by Minister of State for Health Mdm Rahayu Mahzam.

Some 250,000 women aged 18 and above, along with 107,000 youths and children aged below 18 residing in Northern Singapore, can now access comprehensive care services at WHSC and CC. This aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and encourages residents to seek timely medical attention for better health outcomes.

“Women’s and children’s health are vital to the well-being of families. The new WHSC and CC bring holistic and comprehensive specialised health services within easy reach of women and children when needed, a testament of NHG’s commitment to prioritise the health of different populations we serve in Central and North Singapore. Through close collaboration across disciplines, we have better integrated care that meets their specific needs more effectively, improving the patient experience. By advancing women’s and children’s health, we hope to foster healthier families and communities for generations to come,” said Professor Joe Sim, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), National Healthcare Group.

The WHSC provides a range of clinical specialties for women, including Breast Surgery (such as breast care and reconstruction), Endocrinology, Urology and Medical Psychiatry. Through a strategic partnership with KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), WHSC’s Obstetrics & Gynaecology services as well as paediatric care at the Children's Clinic are delivered by integrated teams, combining expertise from both institutions. Together with NHG Polyclinics and primary care partners, these services will complement NHG’s vision to support patients throughout their health journey.

"Since Woodlands Health Campus opened last July, we have identified a distinct need for specialised women's and children's health services in Northern Singapore, where the public healthcare sector can play a vital role towards shaping lifelong health. Through this collaboration between Woodlands Health and KKH, residents in Woodlands, Sembawang and Marsiling will be able to more easily access dedicated healthcare services from early childhood, family planning to menopause and beyond,” said Professor Jason Cheah, Chief Executive Officer, Woodlands Health.

“This partnership marks a significant milestone in transformative healthcare. By combining our clinical expertise with NHG’s presence, we can provide comprehensive, seamless and specialised care for women and children in northern Singapore. The establishment of these clinics sets a benchmark in enhancing healthcare access and putting the patient at the heart of all we do,” said Professor Alex Sia, Chief Executive Officer, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

In 2023, KKH handled approximately 6,800 first-time obstetric and 2,500 general paediatric visits from WH’s catchment area, suggesting a strong demand for these services in this region.

Transforming Care Delivery for Women’s Health

Located at Level 4 of the WH Medical Centre, WHSC offers seamless and coordinated care for women patients requiring consultations with different specialties. Patients can benefit from fewer visits as they will be managed holistically across disciplines, and have their medical appointments coordinated. In addition, the multi-disciplinary team comprising specialists, nursing and allied health professionals is able to address diverse care needs, including mental health and social support.

WH is also an approved Reading and Assessment centre supporting the national subsidised breast cancer screening programme, augmenting national capacity for early detection of breast cancer and enabling timely follow-up for women. Individuals with mammogram abnormalities can consult a WH radiologist and if required a breast surgeon at the Assessment Centre in a single visit for follow-up care, enhancing accessibility to specialised care for residents living around the region.

At WHSC, expectant mothers can access comprehensive pregnancy care including antenatal blood tests, vaccinations, and postpartum care. Arrangements will be made for obstetric patients to deliver at KKH.

Bringing Specialist Children’s Care Closer to Home

The CC offers comprehensive paediatric care through a team of specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals. The clinic serves children aged below 18 years old, addressing a wide range of childhood conditions including developmental concerns, growth issues, and speech delays.

The service offerings will expand progressively to meet the community's growing healthcare needs.
