Can you summarise your job in one or two sentences?
I'm an anaesthesia nurse in the Major Operating Theatre. I support the anaesthetist in administering anaesthesia and monitor patients’ vital signs and pain levels throughout the surgical process.
How long have you been in your current role?
I’ve been in my current role for two years.
What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare?
Being able to provide care, comfort, and support to patients, especially during some of their most vulnerable moments - is something deeply meaningful to me.
How has working in healthcare shaped your perspective on life?
After witnessing both recovery and loss, I’ve learned to appreciate the small things in life, especially the value of good health.
What keeps you motivated at work?
Working with a supportive and reliable team throughout the shift is what keeps me motivated, it makes all the difference.
What’s one aspect of your job that you think is often misunderstood?
There’s a common misconception that nurses only provide bedside care. In reality, many of us including myself - work in specialised areas such as anaesthesia, research, and education.
What’s a skill or quality you’ve developed in this role that you’re most proud of?
In this role, I’ve become more resilient and stronger. Being in high-pressure situations has taught me how to stay calm, focus on what needs to be done, and find solutions even when things get tough.
Could you share a memorable moment from your healthcare journey?
A memorable moment for me was attending my first Code Blue—just a week after I passed my six-month probation. A Code Blue is called when a patient’s heart or breathing stops, and the team must respond immediately. It was an intense experience that showed me how crucial every second and every action is.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone considering a career in healthcare?
One piece of advice I’d give is to be prepared for lifelong learning. Healthcare is constantly evolving, and you’ll find yourself learning something new every day.
How do you unwind or recharge after a busy day at work?
I like to unwind by spending time with my friends—it helps me relax and recharge after a busy day.
