Our Services

The scope of our services include specimen handling, specimen processing and analysis, referral testing, and reporting of test results. Our internal quality audits, quality assurance and quality control programme ensure the achievement of our service quality mission.

We offer diagnostic tests in the following areas:

We provide quick diagnoses through a frozen section service and support fine-needle aspiration procedures with a rapid on-site evaluation service

  • Biochemistry

Biochemistry provides analytical services for blood and body fluid samples to aid in screening, diagnosing, monitoring, and treating diseases. Our testing covers endocrinology, toxicology, and specific protein analysis.

  • Blood Transfusion Service

Our Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) provides pre-transfusion testing, which includes type and screen as well as compatibility testing. Additionally, we offer storage and supply of blood components and plasma derivatives.

  • Haematology

In Haematology, we provide quantitative and microscopic analysis of blood cells, coagulation testing, and microscopy for detecting malaria and parasites.

  • Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics

Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics provides a wide array of clinical microbiological tests, including routine bacterial culture, antibiotic susceptibility testing, serology, antibiotic assays, pandemic testing, and identification of antimicrobial-resistant organisms.

  • Point-of-Care Testing

We facilitate point-of-care testing at Woodlands Health, offering guidance on test system implementation, maintenance, and quality control. The available tests cover blood gases, electrolytes, glucose, PT/INR, glycated hemoglobin, urine dipstick, urine pregnancy testing, and blood ketones.

  • Phlebotomy

We provide phlebotomy services in the Emergency Department and Specialist Outpatient Clinics for patients needing blood specimen collection. This ensures the laboratory's involvement from the outset of testing. Our phlebotomists also provide extra services, including point-of-care testing, intravenous cannulation, blood culture, and microbiology swab collection.

  • Specimen reception

We process specimens in the laboratory immediately upon receipt, with the majority of the reception process being fully automated. Test requests that are not conducted in our laboratory are forwarded to accredited referral laboratories.

  • Reference testing

Test requests not conducted within our laboratory are sent to external laboratories licensed by the Ministry of Health and accredited by the College of American Pathologists. You can find a complete list of available tests, along with reference ranges, specimen requirements, and expected turnaround times, in the laboratory service guide.
