Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ear that is not from the environment and it is very common. Studies show that the prevalence of tinnitus is between 12% to 30% worldwide. Tinnitus is more prevalent with increasing age, and appears to affect males more than females. There are two types of tinnitus: 1. Subjective tinnitus is more common and means that the sounds can only be heard by the patient. 2. Objective tinnitus is less common and can be heard by both the patient and doctor.
