What occurs during an occupational therapy session?

To plan your rehabilitation and address your concerns, your occupational therapist will inquire about your lifestyle, how you have been coping with your health condition and your goals.

Following this, a physical examination will be conducted to better understand your situation and determine suitable interventions. Your therapist will conduct a functional assessment, and/or cognitive assessment to evaluate areas of intervention.

Subsequently, the occupational therapist will collaborate with you to create a personalized rehabilitation plan with goals to manage your condition. This plan may include a combination of therapeutic activities, lifestyle modifications, and self-management strategies for both short and long-term objectives aimed at your rehabilitation.

Which treatments are commonly utilised in occupational therapy sessions?

Common treatment objectives include addressing the following:

  • Optimise function and ability to perform daily tasks
  • Identify and recommend activity/lifestyle/environment modifications
  • Self-management of health condition and health promotion
  • Facilitate return to work and other productive occupations
